Solar Panel Cost in Massapequa, New York
Massapequa sits on the south shore where flood zones change not whether solar works but where the equipment can go.
Massapequa runs down to the Great South Bay in the Town of Oyster Bay. ZIP codes here begin 117 and 118. Two south-shore factors shape a solar project here, and one of them catches people out.
Flood zones change where the equipment goes
A significant part of the south shore sits in mapped flood zones, and on the canal streets many houses have been raised. For solar that affects one specific thing: where the inverter, disconnects and any battery are mounted.
Ground-level equipment on a flood-prone property is a design question rather than a detail, and on a raised house it also changes how conduit runs and where the service equipment sits. Raise it explicitly — an installer who works this shore will have a considered answer; one who does not will mount to habit.
Wind load
Wind rather than snow is the design factor, and proximity to the bay makes the specification more demanding than inland Nassau. Ask what wind load the racking and attachment are specified for and who confirmed it.
Salt exposure near the water also affects mounting hardware and the enclosure ratings on any equipment mounted outdoors.
Roofs
Massapequa’s housing is largely post-war, with a good deal of raised and rebuilt stock along the water. Usable roof area frequently caps the array rather than consumption, and fire-access clearances take proportionally more of a small roof — ask what is limiting it and how much went to clearances.
Roof age is the other gate: under roughly ten years of shingle life left means re-roof first, because removing and reinstalling an array later costs considerably more than mounting on a bare roof.
PSEG Long Island
Phase One net metering credits exports at the full retail rate and holds for 20 years from interconnection. The Customer Benefit Contribution is $1.13 per kW-month of DC system size for 2026 — about $9.04 a month on an 8 kW system, roughly $108 a year. Billed on capacity regardless of production and recalculated annually. Mass-market LIPA projects cannot opt into the Value Stack.
Permits
The Town of Oyster Bay issues permits for most of Massapequa; Massapequa Park is an incorporated village and issues its own, with its own requirements and turnaround. Establish which covers your address before anything else — it is a distinction people miss because the names are so similar.
2026 incentives
The 30% federal residential credit is gone — section 25D was terminated for expenditures made after 31 December 2025, with an expenditure treated as made when the original installation is completed.
Still available: New York’s 25% credit capped at $5,000 on Form IT-255, which reaches leases and PPAs of ten years or more as well as purchases — a shorter lease does not qualify; the state sales tax exemption; and RPTL 487’s 15-year property tax exemption where the town, any village, Nassau County and your school district have not opted out. The RPTL 487 exemption is not automatic: file form RP-487 with your assessor by the taxable status date (March 1 in most towns; January 2 in Nassau towns; May 1 or June 1 in Westchester towns; set by charter in cities; usually January 1 in villages), and the system must be built before January 1, 2030 (RP-487 instructions).
NY-Sun is not on that list. Long Island’s last standard residential block closed in April 2016, and as of September 2026 NYSERDA has no open NY-Sun block for homes in any utility territory. Check NYSERDA’s NY-Sun dashboard for a new one. NYSERDA’s April 2026 NY-Sun Program Manual still lists one home incentive on Long Island that is not tied to a block: the Affordable Solar Residential Incentive of $0.40 per watt for income-qualified homeowners, paid to a participating NY-Sun contractor, who must pass it on in your contract. Ask the contractor to confirm funding is still available.
Five questions worth asking here
- Am I in the Town of Oyster Bay or the Village of Massapequa Park?
- Is my property in a mapped flood zone, and where will the inverter and disconnects be mounted?
- What wind load is the racking specified for, and who confirmed it?
- What is limiting the array — roof area or budget?
- Does the net-cost figure contain any federal credit? It should not.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a flood zone affect solar in Massapequa?
It affects where the inverter, disconnects and any battery may be mounted, and on a raised house it changes how conduit runs and where service equipment sits. Raise it explicitly — an installer who works this shore will have a considered answer.
Who issues my solar permit in Massapequa?
The Town of Oyster Bay for most of Massapequa, but Massapequa Park is an incorporated village and issues its own. Establish which covers your address — the similar names mean this is frequently missed.
Does salt air matter for solar equipment?
Near the water, yes. It affects mounting hardware and the enclosure ratings on any equipment mounted outdoors, alongside the more demanding wind load specification the bay proximity requires.
What does PSEG Long Island charge a Massapequa solar customer?
The Customer Benefit Contribution at $1.13 per kW-month of DC system size for 2026 — about $9.04 a month, roughly $108 a year, on an 8 kW system.

NY Solar Incentives
Independent New York solar research. We summarise NYSERDA, NY-Sun and federal programme rules from published sources and state plainly when a figure is an estimate. We are not a government agency and do not sell equipment.
Run the arithmetic on your own system
Check the dated program table and your arrangement before counting an incentive. Standard residential NY-Sun blocks are closed; Long Island Affordable Solar has a conditional income-verification route. The NY credit depends on qualified costs and tax liability, while the NYC abatement reduces future property-tax bills. The estimator keeps those timings separate.
